Craig Lowe
17:42
I like the new of the loading zone, but we need the mid-block crosswalk by Tabernacle Ave. Otherwise there will be too many "J" walkers crossing the street
Craig Lowe
18:52
I agree with Amy. But maybe the Tabernacle Ave crosswalk needs to be raised
Jen Pacheco Freeman
21:52
a grocery store, hardware and post office are not just tourist minded
Christine Todd
24:47
I agree with Doug.
Christina Izzo
25:27
I agree with Doug as well.
Craig Lowe
25:55
Tourism, construction and real estate are the economic drivers for Oak Bluffs and the Vineyard. Without tourism, the other 2 drivers would not be as large as they are. Sy is right, Circuit and Kennebec should be as safe and pedestrian "friendly" as possible. Without expanding the sidewalks Circuit will not be pedestrian friendly or safe.
Kathy Laskowski
28:10
Pedestrian friendly is good for year-rounders and businesses as well as tourists.
Erik Albert
29:13
Our town is automobile centric. Streetscape is to make it pedestrian centric
Jen Pacheco Freeman
31:11
Thank you Gail.
Erik Albert
31:43
I was on there from the beginning too
Doug A.
44:22
Chuck is 100% correct
gregory thomas's ipad
45:13
There are many who cannot walk or ride a bike. Parking is very important to them.
Erik Albert
45:18
For those that don’t know, I own The Oak Bluffs Inn on Circuit and live there too. I’ve been on Oak Bluffs planning board for fifteen years
Rich Weiss
50:19
People want new sidewalks AND parking. Wider sidewalks make for happy tourists but not happy residents because residents want to park-not tour.
Doug A.
52:41
Amy are you saying we don’t need more parking spots?
lcollis
57:31
I support that idea
Christina Izzo
57:41
Seems like a good idea
Amy Billings
57:48
I’d rather see it there yes Craig
Phil McAndrews
58:09
That makes sense to raise that crosswalk to slow the vehicles
Erik Albert
58:25
I like that idea too. I raised my kids there and know how fast people drive. A stop sign could also work coming into town by Vineyard Vines
Doug A.
59:38
That’s a great idea Craig, maybe that entire square at the bottom of street becomes a raised speed table??
Kathy Laskowski
59:40
And we need to make sure that the police enforce the traffic laws such as stopping at stop signs and following speed limits and such. Enforcement is important.
Rich Weiss
01:02:45
It’s ridiculous that we MUST pick a pedestrian-centric OR auto-centric town.Eliminating parking for wider sidewalks is short sighted.Fix the existing walks, widen where you can, maintain diagonal parking until you can establish a proper park and ride and for gods sake install discreet 15 minute max parking meters at the harbor and Circuit.
Amy Billings
01:03:31
Thank you Richard
Jen Pacheco Freeman
01:04:41
I agree with Richard too
Teresa Clarke
01:05:03
Agree with Rich Weiss
Erin Tiernan (Basics & Eastaway Clothing)
01:05:46
I hope by the end of this meeting someone calls the vote. We need a downtown revitalization soon...and seven years is long enough for input. There is never going to be a full consensus, but they have done an excellent job of creating a beautiful compromise. Thank you to all involved❤️
Erik Albert
01:06:35
We eliminated parking on Healy way and made it a square. A far sighted vision.
Rich Weiss
01:10:33
Yes it was eliminated at Healey but to continue to eliminate without alternative parking in proximity to Circuit is short sighted.
Erik Albert
01:11:51
We increased parking on the harbor last year and plan to increase more. We also increased parking from across the Look Out
Bill Giordano
01:13:21
We also lost parking when the new brick sidewalks were put in, we lost parking across from the SSA whenn
Craig Lowe
01:13:53
The crosswalk at Tabernacle Ave needs to be added back into the plan.
Erik Albert
01:13:59
And those sidewalks make the town better
Rich Weiss
01:14:00
Neither are in proximity to Circuit relative to “in and out” needs like post office, Motts, Phillips or Reliable-which most of that live here frequent.
Christine Todd
01:14:15
I like Doug’s idea about having a raised table like the one at Healey SQ at South Circuit crosswalks.
Amy Billings
01:14:41
Because it’s not a final plan
Bill Giordano
01:15:12
We lost parking across from the SSA when they increased those lanes, we have lost parking here and there over time
Bill Giordano
01:15:39
I don’t believe the SSA is planning on reducing car traffic any time soon
Bill Giordano
01:18:14
What exactly are the seasonal seating table seating areas? I know we talked at meetings years ago about temporary seating for people
Rich Weiss
01:18:52
I like this plan for Healey a lot
Bill Giordano
01:19:22
Is this seating provided by the town and can be removed during the winter or increased during the summer
Susan Phillips
01:21:58
Is the seasonal seating area open to all people or only for patrons of the restaurant/bakety they are closer to?
Kathy Laskowski
01:24:29
This plan looks really good for people moving through and around. Leaving space for possible table seating is a great idea too. Includes green space and open space. I really like this.
Bill Giordano
01:26:33
There is no way you can allow one business to improve their business by allowing seasonal seating while a business is negatively affected by the loss of parking
Luke DEBETTENCOURT
01:27:04
As a direct abutter of Healey Square. I fully endorse this open sight line plan. Anything would be an improvement over the current state of the square. Aside from the available seating currently in Healey Square there are very few positive attributes.
JoJo Lambert
01:27:28
I really like this plan that has been presented.
Luke DEBETTENCOURT
01:29:24
Bike racks are essential, otherwise the light posts become racks by default.
Phil McAndrews
01:29:41
Are bike racks on Ocean Park, close to the road but on the grass an option to consider regarding that topic?
Susan Phillips
01:31:05
I like the open sight plan without the seasonal table area.
Jen Pacheco Freeman
01:31:26
I agree with Susan Phillips
Teresa Clarke
01:32:33
There are four owners of property on Healey Way - Phil McAndrew of Offshore Ale, Ian Collis of Ginger Hotel, and the owners of two residential properties that face Ocean Park. We are in agreement on the following matter:This is a once in a generation opportunity to make a permanent and lasting improvement to Healey Way and our downtown Oak Bluffs community. We would like to see Healey Way (between Kennebec and Ocean Park) match the beauty of what is proposed for Healey Square. To the point made earlier, we should give strong consideration to making OB pedestrian friendly. Let’s extend Healey Square through to Ocean Park.
Teresa Clarke
01:34:02
And the owners of the Healey Way properties are prepared to contribute financially to this vision to underscore our commitment to the betterment of this public way.
Alexander Cohen
01:34:19
My wife and I own the Pawnee House restaurant. We're one of the very few restaurants in OB that has no option for outdoor seating. I love this plan for Healey sq, and hope that people could see how the provided tables in this design could be a huge benefit for us, and help us succeed alongside the other restaurants that are lucky enough to have an outdoor seating option. Thanks
Ewell Hopkins (he/him)
01:36:01
Just a test
Maura McGroarty
01:36:31
Usually there are 4 trash barrels on the bump-out at Circuit/Kennebec. Is there room for them?
lcollis
01:36:46
This latest version of Healey is wonderful. The Trees framing Ocean park is wonderful. Imagine, for a second, something similar connecting to Ocean Park. I fully support adding that back to the plan.
lcollis
01:37:05
I agree with Teressa 100%
lcollis
01:37:36
We need a raised crosswalk across Kennebec.
lcollis
01:38:34
It is the site of the town most accidents, according to the Police Department; let’s extend the good ideas from Circuit to Kennebec
Bill Giordano
01:38:39
I like this design of Healy Square, but tables have nothing to do with pedestrian safety and the “pedestrian experience”
Craig Lowe
01:39:06
I agree with Teresa and Ian. The crosswalk between Healy Sq and Kennebec needs be raised AND proper drainage is required. Same with all Raised Crosswalks and tables.
Bill Giordano
01:39:20
We are going to widen sidewalks and then fill them with tables?
lcollis
01:39:59
if a raised sidewalk is not supported, we need at least a rumble strip
lcollis
01:40:32
But imagine doubling the beauty of Healey Way by extending it to Ocean Park
Alexander Cohen
01:42:07
Squares or piazzas all over the world, not only include, but are built around seating for restaurants. I hope that our very supportive community could see the virtue in our square having outdoor dining included. Especially in this day and age where many diners feel more comfortable eating outside, and health experts vociferously advocate for it.
Phil McAndrews
01:45:06
I agree with Teresa, and I support a continuation of Healy Square through to Ocean Park. Is that section of Healy to be discussed today? I know it was included initially in the Streetscape design.
Kathy Laskowski
01:47:14
I agree strongly with Alexander Cohen about the desirability of space for outdoor dining.
Luke DEBETTENCOURT
01:48:43
Luke @ the Corner Store is in favor of hybrid north parallel, south angled with the additional spaces reclaimed by the use of the LZ.
Larkin
01:50:26
Larkin @ The Ritz is for parallel for the length of Circuit, however feel the hybrid is a good compromise.
Maura McGroarty
01:51:09
The business use of public sidewalk/walking areas is counterintuitive to the main goal of this project: to increase walking area. If a business has its own private property to display its merchandise or provide its service, then the public space is not impacted. On another subject, there may, at a minimum, an appearance of conflict of interest for some members
lcollis
01:51:51
Hotel Ginger, year round, favors parallel the length of Circuit.
Maura McGroarty
01:52:27
to be voting on this project. Any response to this concern?
Jen Pacheco Freeman
01:54:21
Sidewalks can be widened, they do not need to be 10 feet wide
gregory thomas's ipad
01:57:22
Disabled people get to town by car. So parking is still needed.
Bill Giordano
01:58:04
Where will the parking spaces be made up that are lost?
Rich Weiss
01:58:56
It’s the loss of 12 spots AND the inherent difficulty with parallel parking.
Jen Pacheco Freeman
01:59:19
who did the traffic impact study that this change would make for travel thru Circuit Ave? Would this trigger a DRI from the MVC
Erik Albert
02:00:06
Circuit ave is not a DRI
Jen Pacheco Freeman
02:00:35
thank you
Doug A.
02:01:44
Would it be possible to add spots in front of Gio’s where there is currently parallel parking and 10 -15 foot sidewalks by converting to angled parking with 3 foot sidewalks??
Susan Phillips
02:05:45
I thought MA ADA sidewalks requirement is 5'. A wheelchair is average 21"-32" Side by Side stroller is 22". I am in favor of repairing the sidewalks and widen the sidewalks but not losing angle parking. The main problem with parallel is the difficulty, backup traffic and the people that might not come into town. Many people sign the petition and social media response thought it was a bad idea.
Bill Giordano
02:07:43
Why would sidewalks be made narrower when the plan seems to be widening them
Amy Billings
02:07:55
Can Kim give us the count on letters actually received as of 3:00
Craig Lowe
02:08:08
Handicapped spaces could be where the loading zone currently is on Circuit. I would support that.
Doug A.
02:08:31
More Parking!!
Bill Giordano
02:08:33
If a 3 foot sidewalk is not wide enough on Circuit how is it wide enough on lake
Bill Giordano
02:09:10
We can make sidewalks wider on Circuit without losing spaces
Bill Giordano
02:09:23
Where’s that drawing
Kim Leaird
02:10:10
Approximately 32 letters of support and 51 of concern plus a petition have been received
Doug A.
02:10:22
I agree with Bill, tiny sidewalks with angled parking is not a good idea.
Jen Pacheco Freeman
02:12:56
MVC -DRI checklist lists Circuit Ave
Dick Cohen
02:26:38
I agree. Good compromise.
lcollis
02:26:58
The harbor plan is a nice compromise
Craig Lowe
02:30:49
Thank you Doug! I meant to mentioned that. All Crosswalks should be tabled.
lcollis
02:31:06
I support all sidewalks be raised
lcollis
02:31:33
but just one by Dukes County ave
lcollis
02:36:10
I support Gail’s suggestion
Kathy Laskowski
02:39:24
Cars pulling in and out of diagonal parking might slow down traffic some also.
Craig Lowe
02:40:27
I agree with Amy: there should be some handicapped spots along the harbor.
lcollis
02:53:51
The sidewalk to Kennebec should be wider and raised. At a minimum, the width of Healey Square should be a rumble stripe.
Phil McAndrews
03:01:56
Hi Kim, can I add to Teresa's comments?
lcollis
03:02:42
I agree with Duncan: let’s bury those wires
lcollis
03:05:50
our point is to do this flexibly in summer
Dick Cohen
03:06:26
As an abutter to Healy Way, an enhancement would be very desirable.
lcollis
03:09:53
we need to make the corner of Healey Way and Kennebec safer
lcollis
03:10:05
rumble strip at a miniumum
Phil McAndrews
03:10:59
understand closing the street is probably not be an option. It would be great to encorporate healy way to some degree in the beautification plan during this Streetscape plan opportunity
Maura McGroarty
03:13:50
I thought the raised crosswalk was drainage problem in the area. Raised sidewalk at a stop sign is too late.
lcollis
03:15:38
thank you
Susan Phillips
03:16:44
Thank you everyone for your hard work.
Phil McAndrews
03:16:55
Thank you for the consideration for the section of Healy from the square to Ocean Park
Craig Lowe
03:18:05
I believe the Streetscape Committee is sub-committee of the Planning Board
